Battle of the Bar Bands 2013

Battle of the Bar Bands, June 7, 2013
A fun event, for a good cause, this year’s Battle of the Bar Bands featured John Logan performing with the award winning cover band “Standard of Hair” at the Commodore Ballroom, on Friday, June 7.

Though they did not win, “Standard of Hair” along with every other band helped raise over $145,000 for the CBA BC Benevolent Society.

Tyler Galbraith on Tenders, Contracts + Builders Liens

Tyler Galbraith recently presented a three part series to the Fenestration Contractors Association of British Columbia on the topics of tenders, contracts and builders liens. Tyler also recently presented on the same topics to the Mechanical contractors Association of British Columbia. On April 23rd Tyler will be presenting to the Electrical Contractors Association of British Columbia on tender law and on May 1st and 17th Tyler will be presenting to the Vancouver Island Construction Association in Nanaimo and Courtenay respectively on the topic of builders liens.

On April 20, 2013, Jamie Wood was delighted to attend the BC Association of Abattoirs & BC Association of Cattle Feeders 2013 Annual Convention & Trade Show as a keynote speaker. Jamie discussed the impact of the new Family Law Act on succession planning in a presentation entitled “Families Planning for Change.”

Mike Demers to speak at forum on Risks & Liabilities of Green Building

Mike Demers has been invited to speak at the Public Construction Council of British Columbia’s upcoming forum on the Risks and Liabilities of Green Building. The forum, which will also feature well known green building consultant Helen Goodland, will be held on April 17th starting at 3:30 p.m. For more information and registration details go to

On the same topic of Green Buildings, Mike will also be participating in a panel discussion, moderated by LEED consultant Brenda Martens. Also on the panel are representatives from the owner, architectural and contractor groups. The presentation will take place on May 7, 2013 in Vancouver. Construction 101 Course 2013

The Southern Interior Construction Association is putting on its Construction 101 course for new industry participants and Mike Demers will be instructing the construction law components of the course. If you are interested in attending the course, you can get full details and register on the SICA website.

BC Hydro rolls out new standard form contract

BC Hydro is in the process of rolling out a new standard form contract document. BC Hydro, together with the BCCA, ICBA and the BC Roadbuilders are conducting a series of meetings to explain the new document and to inform contractors on upcoming business opportunities on BC Hydro projects. Mike Demers and Bill Veenstra have been asked to speak at these meetings, providing contractors with the information they need to know in order to navigate the new contracts. This is a must-attend event if you are planning to do work with BC Hydro in the future. The first two events are scheduled for Vancouver (April 25th at 8:30 a.m.) and Kelowna (May 1st at 8:30 a.m.) Future conferences are planned for Vancouver Island and Northern BC.
