Spencer Malthouse

Profile

Spencer maintains a general litigation practice with a focus on construction disputes. He is a well-rounded litigator with experience representing clients in a wide variety of disputes. This broad experience means Spencer can adapt and respond to specific scenarios, whether in ongoing construction projects, in Court, or in alternative dispute resolution.

Spencer was called to the Ontario bar in 2020 and the BC bar in 2022. Prior to joining JML, he articled and practiced at one of Toronto’s original civil litigation boutiques. In early 2022, Spencer and his family moved to BC, where he first practiced with a national law firm before finding a home at JML. Spencer has experience on a variety of disputes, including employment, insurance, product liability, maritime, commercial, commercial/residential leasing, and real property. He has argued before the BC Supreme Court, Ontario Superior Court, and Court of Appeal for Ontario. He has conducted a variety of mediations, primarily in construction-related disputes.

Before practicing law, Spencer worked in the financial services industry. Spencer learned that providing financial advice requires tailoring solutions to each client’s specific needs. The same is true in law: everyone deserves advice and representation tailored to their unique circumstances.
